Being the first superhero of beauty, Beautasia has an important role in the world today. Sometimes the word "Beauty" can be confused with "Vanity". I believe beauty starts with self respect, which is an internal attitude. I'm here to help you find your internal power, which will let your inner superhero shine on the outside! When our insides feel pretty, we can balance the outside with proper skincare habits and some lip gloss to be the ultimate beauty you're meant to be!

Beauty starts within

Remember the old saying “you are what you eat?” Today’s diets are filled with preservatives and are over processed. Acidic conditions in the intestines can lead to acne. Stress on the immune system can ignite eczema and dermatitis. Lack of fiber slows digestion and elimination *raises hand* which can cause our skin to look sluggish.

The second part to this equation is our thoughts. I think beauty is an inside job first. Have you ever meet a beautiful person that was all tainted inside, and you thought they were ugly? Recently, I met a man that told me he broke up with his girlfriend because he didn’t like the way she treated herself. Don’t think others don’t notice when you’re destroying your body, sleeping around or talking unkindly about others. Beauty is about respecting yourself and the people around you. Below are some foods and ideas to let your inner beauty shine;

So much of the produce is full of pesticides that can damage our organs and skin. Buy organic when you can. Look for local farmers’ markets in your city. If that’s not readily available to you, make sure your produce is thoroughly cleaned.

Drink 8-10 glasses of water a day (no joke) I always say. “Dehydration is the root of all evil”. Fine lines, irritations and sluggish moods.

Bell Peppers- Super rich in Vitamin C

Kale- Rich in Vitamins C, K and calcium

Cherries- The least caloric of the fruits and is a wonderful anti-inflammatory

Instead of coffee to keep your motor running, try sipping on Green and White teas. They are full of antioxidants and help aid in digestion.

What is your skin type?

When you look at skincare products, you will see on the label what skin type the product is intended for. It can range from anything – dry, sensitive, dehydrated, normal, combo, oily. Understandably, this can get quite confusing. I broke it down in its simplest form for you to understand :)

Dry/Sensitive- Dry skin types are usually sensitive because they are lacking oil. The lipid (oil) barrier on the skin in compromised. You can be born with it, or it can be a natural occurrence as we age. Dry/sensitive skin will not shine throughout the day and it turns red easily.

Normal/Combo- You can tell if you have this skin type because you usually don’t get blemishes. Except for the occasional hormonal monthly pimple which is very normal for this type. Here’s the test: after you wash your face, if you start to shine in the forehead and nose with 4-7 hours, you are combo/normal.

Oily Skin-This skin type is usually thicker and less sensitive. If you wash your face and begin to shine immediately, or within 2-3 hours all over, you are oily.

Dehydrated- This skin type is from lack of moisture or water content in the skin. This is very different from dry. You can see if you’re dehydrated when you lift your skin (on cheeks) and see fine little lines in them, that means you are dehydrated.

Beautasia note: People with oily skin often stay away from moisturizers. Many moisturizers have oils in them. It is important for these skin types to be hydrated. So look for oil-free moisturizers. If your skin feels it lacking hydration, it will over-compensate and typically overproduce more oil. I live by this motto – Dehydration leads to irritation and irritation is the root of all evil to our skin. ;)

I put this picture in this post because we should all love our skin and spontaneously touch it. JUST KIDDING! Don’t ever touch your face unless your hands are clean. Bacteria on your fingers leads to acne! :)

Hope this helps, would love to hear your thoughts.

Beauty is only skin deep?

What does that mean? When did this saying become popular? I’ve learned since the beginning of time that cave men hunted out the youngest, most fertile of women for breeding. They looked for full lips, hips, large breasts and round faces. In modern day, women are sweating, scraping, burning and sticking themselves with needles to give themselves the appearance of youth and “beauty”. I had a young girl in her 20′s tell me she was concerned with aging because, when she’s 60 years old, she still wanted her husband to be attracted to her. I hear many men say, they like “natural” beauty. They “hate implants”, or say, “stop doing things to your face.” So which came first? The ideal look of what is “beautiful”, or is this a modern-day concept that women need to look and act young to catch a suitable mate? Well, my friends, I believe this concept has been adapted since the beginning of time. Women should not be faulted with being less than secure with themselves for wanting to look better. Nor men should be faulted with wanting youthful women, because they are good hunter/gatherer’s. ;)

I had a client come in for a facial who was having an important writer’s meeting. Writers are behind the scenes, so why did she want to look good? Who cares what a writer LOOKS like, as long as her fingers work. Well, simply put, when you look good, you feel good.

Healthy skin comes from internal and external factors. Come explore these concepts and simple beauty, health, and makeup techniques in my blog. Its doesn’t take being a rocket scientist, or a time machine to gain some control in your beauty routine. Always remembering beauty comes from within, but tweaking the outside doesn’t hurt either.

Good Luck, and always, I love to hear your thoughts and comments below, especially from some men :)
