Celebrity Beauty Secrets Part 2!

The first segment of celebrity beauty secrets was just the beginning! I’ve got some more juicy secrets that keep your favorite and maybe no-so-favorite celeb looking so fresh and so clean. Hey, even if we don’t love a certain celeb doesn’t mean we can’t steal some of their beauty secrets, right?!

I know everyone loves to watch the royal family of reality TV-the Kardashians. Even if you love to hate them, you have to admit that they are all unjustly gorgeous! Kim Kardashian says that one of her beauty secrets which she learned from her makeup artist is to set concealer with translucent powder for more staying power. Her little sis Kendall Jenner likes to use Swab Plus Eye Makeup Remover Corrector to correct mistakes and help shape her liquid eyeliner. Swab Plus is like a Q-tip filled with gentle eye makeup remover/corrector in it. You just snap the end of the swap and use the other end to swipe away mistakes or eye makeup, easy peasy!

Country cutie Carrie Underwood likes to layer different mascara formulas to really make her beautiful peepers stand out. To make her eyes pop, she has several different mascaras on hand and will layer volumizing mascara with a lengthening formula to get long and lush lashes. One of the hottest women alive, Jennifer Aniston likes to keep her beauty routine simple by using Neutrogena facial soap to wash her face and keeps her lips sexy and kissable for Justin Theroux by scrubbing her lips with sugar on her toothbrush. Another cheap and easy beauty secret courtesy of Catherine Zeta-Jones is to rub strawberry flesh on your teeth for a quickie whitening treatment sans the sensitive teeth.

Mad Men vixen Christina Hendricks adds a little foundation with her body lotion to make her gorgeous gams look flawless on-screen and off. Next time you want to showcase your legs, try out this trick to make your stems look picture perfect! Just make sure you allow it to dry thoroughly before getting dressed. Another celeb beauty secret that helps you to look and feel good is to do like supermodel and supermom Molly Sims and dry brush your body with a dry body brush before you take your bath or shower to help with circulation and detox. It’s also supposed to help with the appearance of cellulite! If you want to try this out for yourself, you can find dry body brushes at Bed Bath & Beyond or online at Amazon. Teri Hatcher likes her bath with a glass of wine and I don’t mean in the glass, she pours her wine into the bath to moisturize her whole body.

Most of these beauty secrets are pretty safe and sane, but there are some daring celebs who opt for bolder and pricier beauty treatments to keep them looking youthful. Duchess Kate Middleton and hot mom Victoria Beckham both like bee venom facials to reduce the look of fine lines and wrinkles. Don’t head for the honeycomb hideout just yet, you can have a serious allergic reaction so make sure you test out bee products before you seek out a place that offers this service. Eva Longoria and Jennifer Lopez are both fans of anti-aging placenta face masks. The masks use freeze-dried, sterilized powder from placentas taken from live human or mammals births. I’ll pass on the bees and placenta, thank you!

Aside from the crazy anti-aging masks, will you try any of these celebrity beauty secrets? I’d love to hear how they work out for you! If you have any of your own beauty secrets that you’d like to share, please comment below, sharing is caring!

Celebrity Beauty Secrets Revealed!

So you think you’ve tried every beauty secret in the book? Ever wonder what crazy things celebs do to keep themselves looking so fresh and lovely all the time? Celebs have access to the best in the beauty industry which means that they’ve definitely picked up a few unfamiliar beauty secrets and I’m going to share some of these celebrity beauty secrets so that you too can also reap the benefits!
It’s no secret that many people use hemorrhoid cream to battle puffy eyes, but actress Sandra Bullock takes it a step further and likes to use hers to keep fine lines and wrinkles at bay. And you’ve heard of subbing Monistat for an expensive foundation primer, right? Time to run to the drugstore and stock up on personal care creams!
Cindy Crawford has gorgeous skin and if you ask me, she hasn’t changed a bit since her heyday in the 90’s. Want to know how to make her homemade moisturizing mist? She mixes equal parts water and milk into a spray bottle and spritzes it on her skin to moisturize and keep skin dewy. Hey, the forever fab Marilyn Monroe used to take milk baths so Cindy is learning from the best!

You’re not going to believe this one, but the now preggers Jersey Shore star Snooki likes to swap clean kitty litter as an exfoliant! Snooki says her facial scrubs contain little rocks similar to those seen in kitty litter and she’s seen great results. C’mon Snooks, if you can find kitty litter, I’m sure you can find some sugar to use instead!

Supermodel and fashion icon Kate Moss has her own pre-party ritual of dunking her face in a bowl of ice cubes to boost radiance and “freeze” any lines on her face. Ice can definitely decrease redness and puffiness so Kate’s icy cold treatment isn’t as far out there.
Reality star and best-selling author Lauren Conrad likes to press cold cucumber slices on her eyes to reduce dryness and irritation around the eye area. I can’t help but picture her wearing a pink robe, hair up in a towel, bunny slippers, green facial mask and cucumber slices on her eyes.

Revlon spokeswoman and actress Halle Berry likes to recycle her coffee grounds and pair it with her body wash to keep her body smooth and radiant. Talk about eco-friendly beauty! Actress and
Goop guru Gwyneth Paltrow likes to use her body washing tools to style her hair. Gwyneth has been known to wrap her hair in a body loofah and blast her tresses with a hair dryer to increase volume and combat the frizzies.

Actress Nicole Kidman knows how to use the contents of her pantry to double as a hair treatment. She likes to rinse her hair with cranberry juice to keep her gorgeous red hair looking fresh and vibrant. Another way Hollywood’s finest is keeping their hair looking camera ready is to use a combination of makeup and hairspray to temporarily “color” hair in between colorings.
*Beautasia note: LOVE HER!

Actress and entrepreneur Eva Longoria likes to spritz her roots with hairspray then apply an eye shadow that matches her hair to cover up roots.
Don’t you feel more glamorous already?! I love how these celebrity beauty secrets are cheap and easy, so when we’re feeling brave, we can test out some of these bizarre beauty treatments for ourselves.

5 Easy Ways to Feel Fab While You’re Sick

During the colder months, colds and flus are inevitable for some of us; it can be a simple case of the sniffles to a full-blown case of the flu. But just because you’re feeling under the weather, does not mean you have to look or feel like it. Here are five easy ways to get through those dreaded sick days:

1. Dress the part

Get out your comfiest pajamas and thick socks or slippers and forget about looking cute or frumpy. Allow yourself to totally relax and be comfortable during this unpleasant time.  You spend the rest of your time dressed to the nines and looking stylish – regardless of how uncomfortable it can be. So forgo any restricting clothing and focus on getting better!

2. Pamper yourself

Remember those bath bombs or bottles of bubble bath you stocked up on? What about those deep-conditioning treatments for your hair that you never have time to use? Why not put those to use now when you really need it?! Although your olfactory senses are not up to par, pampering your skin and/or hair while lying in a nice warm bath are sure to make you feel better while you are toughing out your cold. After bath time is over, make sure to lotion up to keep your skin feeling nice and the pampered vibe going.

Beautasia tip: If the bath is too hot and if done too frequently it can start to sag the skin. So use ICE (in case of emergency) ;)

3. Take advantage of your down time

If you have quarantined yourself, and are stuck in bed or on the couch, make use of your quiet time to catch up on the latest e-book you have wanted to read or go through the huge stack of fashion magazines you have. Reading can be a great escape…whether you browse the latest beauty trends or reading the latest thriller, you are sure to find inspiration or a much-needed mental getaway. Depending on how you feel, you can also use this time to organize a drawer or catch up on personal emails or phone calls.

My last read was “Stop Being a Bitch and Get a Boyfriend”

4. Avoid neglecting yourself

Although you might feel like you have the worst flu of your life, make sure you still take care of yourself like you normally would. You might not want to wash your face or you might skip a meal because you do not feel hungry; it is still important to do these things. Your body needs nourishment to get better and skipping brushing your teeth or washing your face will probably just make you feel unpleasant, in addition to already feeling ill. (you know how Beautasia feels about oral hygiene)

5. Put your face on

I know, you might feel like death-on-wheels during this time, but putting on your makeup can boost your mood! You don’t have to go all out with a full face and false lashes, but why not take the opportunity to experiment with something different from your everyday look or bring out your inner Nicki Minaj? If makeup sounds as appealing as shaving your legs, try putting on a mask to soothe your skin or give yourself a little mani. You don’t have to have any professional tools…just some super-moisturizing hand lotion, a nail file, and some clear or colored polish.

Side note: I love her!!!

Sleeping Beauty IRL

Is “Beauty sleep” a myth?

Being beautiful isn’t just about looks, your overall health plays a huge factor as well. But does a certain amount of sleep contribute to this? A study done by the Karolinska Institute in Sweden shows that the men & women who got a good nights sleep (eight hours) were viewed as more healthy, more attractive, and not as tired (natch) as the sleep deprived.  So aside from feeling tired, you may look that way as well.

Sleep allows us time to recuperate; much regeneration and regrowth of skin tissue occurs when after we turn the lights out. Though the lures of TV, internet and alone time are prevalent, getting to bed at around 10:00 or 11:00pm is ideal. In just eight short hours, your body is rebuilding brain cells and producing stress-relieving cortisol, just to name a few of the functions.

If you are concerned about things such as eye puffiness and dark circles under your eyes, know that products are fine, but nothing can beat getting in a night of good, restful sleep- puffy eyes is one of the symptoms of sleep deprivation. Although fluid accumulating under the eyes is normal during the night, it goes away after a while. When you aren’t getting enough, it can cause the blood vessels under the skin to dilate, which leaves them looking dark.

(If you miss a night here and there, don’t fret; there are ways to combat eye baggage! Beautasia’s Puffy Eye Techniques )

And of course there is also the question of HOW one can get to sleep, with so many factors keeping us stirring in the wee hours these days… You can always try:

  1. Not eating or drinking up to four hours before bed time
  2. Avoiding certain stimulating activities (we mean like a good book or engrossing movie- not the other kind of stimulation *wink*); try more mundane tasks before bed.
  3. Wearing an eye-shield; light stimulates and keeps us from getting a good nights sleep. (An eye mask can also help to preserve the delicate skin from being stretched when it comes in contact with your pillow!)

So it would appear that Beauty Sleep isn’t a myth after all. Remember, make-up can only go so far, and nothing beats a good nights rest. So get in those eight hours, sleeping Beauties!

B-Savvy With These Puffy Eye Techniques

Green tea or black? Herbal? In addition to drinking, all three teas work well to soothe puffy, irritated eyes. There are also specialty eye tea bags which can be obtained from your local pharmacy. The difference? Not much (except the price – the specialty eye tea bags usually costing a bit more than the drinking tea varieties) . Caffeinated teas help constrict blood vessels and reduce swelling, while herbal teas (especially chamomile) contain anti-irritants that soothe redness and inflammation.

How to apply tea for your eyes -

For a refreshingly cool remedy:

  1. Place two tea bags into boiling water and brew for 5 minutes. Then remove the tea bags ringing out the liquid.
  2. Next, place both tea bags into your kitchen’s freezer to cool them down, being careful not to freeze them, approximately 10-15 minutes. Then take them out, lay down, relax and put the tea bags over the puffy areas of your eyes.
  3. Leave them on your eyes for approximately 10-15 minutes, turning them over half way through. Afterwards, remove the tea bags and throw them away.
  4. Then rinse your face with cool water. Make sure you rinse off any residue carefully with a cold damp tissue or face cloth.

For a comforting, warm remedy:

If you do drink tea often, you can begin saving the tea bags from your tea pot while they are still warm – be careful that they are not too hot!

  1. Place a towel where your head will be resting to prevent leaking and staining. Lie down, place one black tea bag over each eye after closing your eyes first and relax for about five minutes.
  2. Deep breathing will increase your oxygen intake while you rest and promote increased energy levels.

You’ll be amazed at how much wider open your eyes will feel and how quickly soreness will be reduced.

How Old Is Your Skin? – The Pinch Test

You know the old saying “Age is just a number”? It’s true! You are as old as you feel. Staying mobile and active is one way to combat aging. You don’t have to be born a Superhero to stay agile and strong. You just have to get off your rump and DO SOMETHING! I met a 90-year-old woman who had great mobility and a sharp wit. I asked her, “What is your secret?” and she said a “healthy diet and a 5-mile walk every night.” She was an inspiration. (I found this great article that I want to share for more information on that topic The Truth About Fitness and Aging.)

Here’s a test to find your Real Age.

Now, as far as the skin -when we age, our skin loses elasticity and fullness. Collagen and elastin are major components of our skin, giving it support. As we age and gradually lose this precious commodity, our skin begins to thin and start to sag.

So, what is the age of your skin? Here’s a test:

  • Hold the skin along the cheekbone with your thumb and forefinger for 5 seconds. Count the time it takes to flatten. View chart below:

Time in SecondsAge of Skin
1-2Under 30
3-430-44
5-945-50
10-1560
56 or moreJust forget about it ;)

My motto is Prevention is Half the Fight. So to keep cells healthy in the body, my recommendation is to protect yourself from harm’s way in the first place by: not smoking, not doing drugs, and avoiding prolonged sun exposure. Meanwhile, beefing up the anti-oxidants to protect your cells from the evils of free radicals (read more from my blog post http://hollywoodbeautiful.com/beautasia/skincare-ingredients/).

Good luck, Superheroes in training! Hope you enjoyed this post. Tell me, how old is YOUR skin? And if you need help with any skincare regimens, please let me know. Comment below.

Probiotics – Inside and Out

We are hearing a lot of talk about probiotics lately. The live cultures that we find in our favorite creamy breakfast food are proven to be good from the inside out! These tiny little “bacteria” is what our little superhero bodies need to fight crime in our intestines and now, our skin regimen!

Acne is caused from bacteria (bad guys) living inside our pores. The theory is that, when we ingest the probiotics (good guys), our insides become balanced. When we apply probiotics topically, we can fight the bacteria from the outside and restore the skin of its much-needed PH level. When our PH is strong and healthy, there’s very little chance that bacteria can grow, lessening the chance of irritation and inflammation which are major culprits in many skin disorders – like acne and eczema.

Our environment is riddled with pollutants and skin-destroying irritants. Probiotics have been shown to protect, improve moisturization, and stimulate cell function. Sounds like a win-win all around!

There are many different forms out on the market today, refrigerated and unrefrigerated. Both equally as good, so choose the one that fits your lifestyle and start protecting yourself from the inside out!

Here are examples of some of my favorites:

For Acne

For Anti-aging

Internally, I like to start my morning with Greek Yogurt

to give me the power and strength I need to sustain throughout the day.

Hope you found this information helpful. Would love to hear how probiotics have improved your life! Comment Below :)

Diamonds (facials) Are No Longer a Girl’s Best Friend

Los Angeles, CA- In a fast-paced world fueled by image, hype, and speculation, it’s no wonder that Mila Kunis’ $7000 facial made headline news. As we all know, the rich continue to get richer…and the poorer? Well… you know the rest. Lucky for aesthetician-to-the-stars, Scott-Vincent Borba, who created the HD Diamond and Ruby Peel in which it is alleged that precious stones work as antioxidants for the skin to create a “lustrous sheen.”

Mr. Borba told the Daily Mail that after getting your face scrubbed with the crushed stones, he then applies a lactic acid peel to stimulate cell turnover, followed by ultra-sonic hot and cold wands and a blast of LED red light. The HD Diamond and Ruby Peel is still in it’s testing phase, but Borba said that Kunis is always happy to be his guinea pig. “Mila is one of my muses,” he said. “She’ll test my stuff before everyone else and give me feedback. I always do [this on] her skin, neck, décolleté, arms and the back of her hands — anything that will be possibly showing with her dress,” said Borba.

According to an editor at Allure who underwent a 20-minute version of the facial, “the cold galvanic wand really did feel amazing. Even better, my complexion looked more even after the facial.” The same Allure story asked Jeannette Garf, a clinical professor of dermatology at Mount Sinai Medical Center, to weigh in. “Since the wands are heated and cooled to particular temperatures that won’t burn the skin, they can help with lymphatic drainage and circulation. Red LED light is good for collagen production. But there is no data or study that I have found that states precious gems are better than any other type of exfoliation.”

More than most industries, beauty companies rely on hype and celebrity images to create a following for their products and services. I highly doubt that this exorbitantly priced facial will catch on in the mainstream. More than not, it was a product created to barter in exchange for celebrity endorsements.

Prevention is half the fight

Ah, yes. If only we knew now what we knew back then!

Remember when smoking was cool? How long ago that seems today! Now we know that smoking depletes our bodies of vital oxygen needed to produce healthy skin cells.

Did you know that 70% of the aging process is caused by the sun? Furthermore, 70% of the damage that is done is done before we even reach the age of 18!

What’s the lesson here for moms and dads? Simple: slather your kids with sunscreen with an appropriate SPF (30 or higher with broad spectrum protection). Both they and their beautiful, healthy skin will thank you when they are older!

While there are two types of rays, both damaging, the strongest of the two (UVA) can penetrate through glass and are the most harmful.  With this in mind, when you think of UVAs think of  ”UVAging”!  The best way to prevent this “UVAging” is to make sure your product says both UVA/UVB on the label.

Remember, prevention is half the fight. What you do today will save you time, effort and expense later. Why do you think insurance was invented?   ;)

You may be familiar with the Olay ad campaign with the slogan “love the skin you’re in”. I love that slogan. “Love the skin you’re in” is great advice. While you’re at it, “love yourself AND your skin!”

Have you ever trained a dog? Any good dog whisperer would tell you that the best way to keep your new best friend from chewing on your shoes would be to PICK THEM UP. How are they supposed to know what’s a toy and what isn’t? Preventing this disaster from happening is the secret to avoiding the frustration in the first place.

I get that we are busy people and habits are hard to break, but we are not dogs (although even old dogs can be taught new tricks).

My rule of thumb is to tell yourself to do something for 14 days. After that, your brain recognizes this as a habit. Start thinking about how to protect yourself today for a happier tomorrow.

Hope you’ll take precautions when in the sun!
