The History and Science of Love…

It’s Valentines Day! I feel the love in the air when I see flower shops spilling with red roses, heart-shaped balloons and my favorite, CHOCOLATE!

History of Valentines?

The nay-sayers will tell you that Valentine’s day is a Hallmark-fabricated holiday. Possibly…but, I found a great video that challenges you to believe there was, in fact, a St. Valentine. Click here for this interesting piece.

Whether you’re single, or not – I love this holiday! As a hopeless romantic, (yes, Superheroes are romantic too!) it gives me an opportunity to feel special and make someone else happy in the process. I like to take note of all the wonderful, inspirational people in my life and show them appreciation and gratitude. After all, these feelings are necessary for happiness.

The Science of Love

When the feeling of love triggers your brain, it sets off dopamine. This feeling of euphoria sets our heart racing, romance brewing, and attachment. We’ve been conditioned, since the beginning of time, to find a mating partner. It’s no wonder why we will search for it ’til the end of time. This crazy chemical can cause you to feel great, but also drive you banana berries when we experience heartbreak or rejection :(   (I think this is where the term crazy bitch was invented. ;) )

Love comes in various forms and means different things to different people. Don’t fret if you’re not frolicking on the beach with your soul mate today. Not many people are, unless you are on an episode of The Bachelor. It can be difficult for chemistry and timing to hit. So B-Patient, love yourself and enjoy life.

I hope everyone is feeling loved today in some form! Even if you don’t have a romantic mate, show the friends and family in your life how much you care! Let me know some of the things you’ll be doing on Valentines day below. XOXOXOX

New Year, New You? Lose Pounds and “Perfection”

Happy New Year, Everyone! I’m sure you needed the much-deserved break from work and recharge with close friends and family during the holidays.  I, personally, took this opportunity to take care of myself. I juiced, spent time with myself, and cleared out some much-needed mental space.

The majority of you probably took this opportunity to have some fun! Which is great! But holiday parties and social expectations this time of year sometimes cause us to indulge and maybe act in ways that aren’t “ourselves.” Leaving us feeling guilty inside. Causing even more anguish ending up the year.

News Year’s Eve night I was watching Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rocking Eve. (NOT because I had nothing to do ;) . I saw that TWO of the top FIVE New Year’s resolutions was to get healthy or lose weight.

What is healthy?

Healthy, to me, is a feeling and state of mind. Why don’t we feel healthy these days? People are now overworked and underpaid – some of us have 2 or 3 jobs. The stress of that alone can make us mental. With limited time, we choose to eat fast food. That, in itself, is killing us and causing multiple health problems in our society. Deficiencies in our diets and artificial stimulants are actually making us crash and burn. Which, in turn, causes us to spend less time on ourselves. :(

Beautasia Promise: I’ve chosen to cook more, eat organic, and buy from local farmers as much as I can.

I watched this documentary, that really inspired me!

Lose Weight?

Why are we becoming a more obese society? Actually, it’s more apparent all over the world. (Can you see golden arches where you live?) Mainly because we have more caloric foods and more sedentary lifestyles. We don’t even roll down our own windows in our cars, everything is available at the push of a button. We have apps that will start our roast before we come home.

Beautasia Tip: Take stairs, and don’t wait for the closest parking spot. Exert some energy. Making small steps now can lead to bigger ones later :)

My New Year’s Resolution?

People keep asking me this question. Sure, I look back at the past year – see what I could have done differently, celebrate what worked. Over all, it’s been a wonderful year with great promise and change. If I could pinpoint ONE thing, I would tell myself to be easier on myself. The job of a Superhero comes with great responsibility. As a young Superhero-in-training, I was expected to jump higher, think faster and overall be “perfect.” But what is perfect and ideal? Don’t get into the trap of thinking, feeling, living something your NOT. Or worse, living for someone’s idea of “perfect.” We already have enough pressures, don’t make more for yourself.

B-Proud of yourself and CTFO (chill the F**k out ;)

Have no fear, superheroes-in-training, I’ve made a commitment this year to show you fast and simple solutions to these issues. After all, Beauty starts with a state of mind. Once we start on the inside, the outside will glow and shine. Find your balance, and don’t forget yourself.

What’s your New Year’s resolution? What accomplishments will you celebrate? Leave your comments below!

This is the time of year when we look back at our trials and tribulations, our triumphs and tragedies. But we must remember to count each blessing, and to acknowledge the life lessons we’ve been presented with. Hopefully 2012 brings challenge, change and growth, and a renewed sense of spirit that will carry us all to the next level of life.

I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for joining me on this SUPER journey of mine. I met some wonderful, inspiring people, and had some incredible mentors. Here’s hoping 2012 brings more opportunities to learn, and to move forward. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you and wish you a safe and prosperous new year!

B-Thoughtful: Chivalry is an Art not a Fad

What is the Art of Chivalry? This seems to be a hot topic and one I’ve been analyzing and interviewing people with for a few years now.

In these days of communication via text messaging, 140 characters or less and through wall posts, how do you court and take out a lady during these times?

I get it, we are all busy, and shooting someone a text can be easier when asking a quick question, or if you have little ones around. But with the age of online dating and meeting people through Facebook. How are we suppose to properly ask someone out?

Back in the day men would get a ladies attention by picking up her handkerchief, lighting her cigarette or buying her a drink (which still works in modern day).

Today we have resorted to getting someones attention by re-tweeting, starting a conversation under a picture or worse- getting “poked.”

Another by-product of this new age, I see women getting more aggressive, but whats a (wo)man to do, if she likes the more traditional approach? I’ve asks countless guys, and they say they like it when women approach them. After all no one likes to be rejected. However, I’ve personally been the aggressor, only to get a “deer in headlights look” like something was wrong with me. Because a man should hunt his prey? Which brings me to this point:  Men are hunter’s by nature. In the wild, the peacock will shake his tail feathers to show off to the female, hoping he gets her attention. Basically, you need to put in some work, and make some effort.

Then there’s the question of sex and money. In America, men are expected to ask a lady out, pay for the night, and THEN WHAT?

Jeff tells me- “If I get sex at the end of the night, then I don’t expect a woman to pay, I would pay $80 for sex, so I don’t mind buying dinner.” But then there is the question of WHEN. Seeing as when we sleep with a man on the first night, we are seen as loose and can pretty much be considered road kill.

Mark is of European descent and he tells me “The art of Chivalry is very much alive in Europe, and sex is more open…”  He says “I love opening a door for a woman and paying for dinner. If a woman chooses to sleep with you the first night, she is not seen as less than respectable. Money is rarely a factor. Women are not bought, they are earned”.

Any Canadians out there like to chime in? ;) Would love to hear your take.

I asked Brent Smith, a lifestyles coach, the question about money. His take? “If a man asks you out, he should pay for EVERYTHING!” However, he advises against traditional dating, “…because it is not relevant these days.”

I understand Brent, we are not expecting our man to show up in his bow tie and box of candy. I think the common denominator here is some respect and thoughtfulness.

For example, Jill told me she gave a guy a second date because he carried her drink to the table from the bar when their reservation was ready. She had never seen that before and liked the doting.

Samantha tells me a story about her guy friend that pays for her when they go out. She’s not even sleeping with him! Of course this isn’t expected, but- we appreciate it.  If this ever happens, gals will look at each other and assume his mother raised him right. :)

So fellas listen up, here are some

Romance buzz kills

1. Not calling-Especially for the first date! sending messages via text by the only means of communication shows you don’t have time, and do not care to put in any effort. Especially when making plans. Pick up the phone! Nuances get lost in text-ver-sating.

2. Not making plans- Women hate the last minute “My friend is having a party, in 45 minutes, do you want to go?” Or worse, saying you are going to make a plan but have no follow through.  Can you say LAME-O?

3. If your online dating- Send a nice email, telling her why you guys would get along, or what attracted you to the profile. (Winks are for sissies)

4. Not giving her a complement when you see her- Women will spend half the day getting trimmed, polished and waxed for you. So a simple, “you look great” will do. We would like to hear anything but crickets chirping. :)

5. Acting Cheap- Squawking at the bill, pulling out a Groupon on a first date, or not paying for valet. Especially if she’s dressed to the nines. That’s a no meter no-no. ;)

Beautasia Tip: if a woman meets you out, you should offer to pay for her valet.

6.Not Checking in- The next day, or the day of (ESPECIALLY if you got the booty) always, always say “it was nice seeing you” or “you had a great time.” or whatever you might say. Just a little something so we know it wasn’t just a cheap fling. We love that! A text is acceptable in this case.

My closing thought…I feel women still need to be treated like ladies, and the flip side, men want their ladies to act like women. Also guys, if the “boyz” you hang around think being courteous and respectful to a woman makes you a p*ssy, then you might be hanging out with douchebags. :)

Love to hear your thoughts, are these out dated principals? Please comment below!!!

Happy Hunting,

Give the gift of sex for Fathers Day

This Sunday is Father’s day. What a better time to show the man in your life that you love him by giving him a li’l  sumin’ sumin’ ;)

Although they did not go through labor, they labor through the day to keep us protected. Agreed, women  are the ultimate multi-taskers,  the men are the driving force that keeps the household operating and together. When we are at our wits end and are babbling cry babies,  our men take care of the situation with logic to help us get through that moment. Our true Yin to our Yang. For this we should salute them. I put a compilation of dads I would like to salute.

MEOW…kitty likey

If you want to go the traditional route. I found a couple of really great blogs with ideas. blah blah…

A. Cologne or B. Something to make him hip and stylish yay!

Ladies, THIS is my favorite AND his too.

* So call the sitter

* Light the candles

* Grab some wine

and really show him how much you appreciate him, with a sexy dance ala Jaime Lee Curtis style from TRUE LIES

If you need instructions, here’s the video Yeeeow, YOU GO GIRL!!!

Remember in this movie? The husband was watching his wife, dancing sexy. He nearly fell out of the chair because he never saw her like this! This is how men want you to be after the lights go out. It is possible to be both women. So go on, let your inner stripper out. Preferably behind your bedroom door, or in this case a fine hotel room. Both work!

Beautasia tip: Remember, you are sexy and your man loves you. No matter if you put on a few extra pounds. You are the mother of his baby(s) and nothing is sexier to a man than that. Confidence is the ultimate turn of for them.

Hope you enjoyed the post. So dust off the cobwebs ladies and have some fun! It’s all about him this Sunday, it’s ONE day out of the year, so give it to him, literally ;)

Best of all, it’s FREE!

Would love to hear what you are doing for your baby daddy this weekend! It’s like Christmas morning when I get a comment on my blog. So leave one and tell me what you think. :B

F**K Fairy Tales! Find Your Own Happily Ever After.

When I was a little superhero growing up, I dreamed my prince would come on his horse and rescue me from the castle. You’re probably asking, “why would she dream that?” Well, I grew up hearing about Cinderella and Snow White like most little girls. You know, the stories of the damsels in distress, waiting for their young, handsome, and rich prince to kiss them and make everything all better.

Growing up a dreamer was natural but I always knew I was different. I always felt my  destiny was to help people. I have a great life, enriched with helping people feel empowered and beautiful ;)   but it’s not always easy. I’ll admit, sometimes I get in a slump too.  Can you believe it? Superheroes have hormonal and stressful days too!

The day usually starts off with a feeling of loneliness (It’s not like in my “day” life I can tell people who I really am). Then I curse the “powers that be” for giving me this life. I look at the countless number of people who need my help and sometimes I feel powerless. I’ll start to think that I wish someone was here to talk to, someone who could kiss my forehead and tell me that it will all be ok as he wraps his arms around me to protect me and make me feel special.

Then I start to wonder, “why am I feeling this way? I have a good life. I live in suburbia with a white picket fence (mainly to hide my superhero identity), I love my job of helping people, and I love my dog. Then the realization comes over me… I have the power to make myself feel special. First I count on multiple fingers how many people I have in my power circle that care about me. Then I count all the things that make me happy in my life, like a baby’s laugh or hearing the waves crash live or on my favorite YouTube page.

The moral of this story, trite as it may seem, is that you have the power within you to make yourself happy. Don’t expect anyone else to do it for you! Being a superhero has its ups and downs just like any other job.  Just remember you’re not alone and it’s ok to ask for emotional support from time to time. But it’s nobody’s job but your own :)

If you can relate to this story I would love to hear your thoughts below, or forward this to a friend that may need it.

Do you really want to know what people are thinking about you?

I know I’ve often wanted to be a fly on the wall. But do you really need to know EVERYTHING? Recently I heard someone was saying nasty things about me, and I felt hurt and ganged up on.

Try as I might, I couldn’t feel compassion for this person. I couldn’t get past it and it became an obsessive dialogue in my brain. Every time I saw her, I wanted to shoot heat-seeking missiles out of my eyes.

Why would someone feel this way about me? I’m a superhero! I try to be perfect and do everything right – I go out of my way to help people everyday.

So, I stepped outside of myself and asked a few questions. What is this person’s state of mind? Maybe they were troubled, or perhaps I said something unintentionally that sent her over the edge.

The most important thing I realized was my part in it. I had some anger inside of me.

* Spoiler alert* Even superheroes aren’t perfect! ;)

These can be some troubling times. So, let’s all self reflect and exercise some compassion.

Attached is a link to a seminar for women to help them find the beauty within. Remember, beauty is literally a state of mind. If this post spoke to you in some way, I would love for you to share your thoughts.

Beauty starts within

Remember the old saying “you are what you eat?” Today’s diets are filled with preservatives and are over processed. Acidic conditions in the intestines can lead to acne. Stress on the immune system can ignite eczema and dermatitis. Lack of fiber slows digestion and elimination *raises hand* which can cause our skin to look sluggish.

The second part to this equation is our thoughts. I think beauty is an inside job first. Have you ever meet a beautiful person that was all tainted inside, and you thought they were ugly? Recently, I met a man that told me he broke up with his girlfriend because he didn’t like the way she treated herself. Don’t think others don’t notice when you’re destroying your body, sleeping around or talking unkindly about others. Beauty is about respecting yourself and the people around you. Below are some foods and ideas to let your inner beauty shine;

So much of the produce is full of pesticides that can damage our organs and skin. Buy organic when you can. Look for local farmers’ markets in your city. If that’s not readily available to you, make sure your produce is thoroughly cleaned.

http://www.eatcleaner.com/

Drink 8-10 glasses of water a day (no joke) I always say. “Dehydration is the root of all evil”. Fine lines, irritations and sluggish moods.

Bell Peppers- Super rich in Vitamin C

Kale- Rich in Vitamins C, K and calcium

Cherries- The least caloric of the fruits and is a wonderful anti-inflammatory

Instead of coffee to keep your motor running, try sipping on Green and White teas. They are full of antioxidants and help aid in digestion.

Beauty For the Mind

Tell someone you love them today (if you mean it)

Resist Gossip

Do something that quiets the mind

Love to hear some of your beauty regimens in the comment section below :) Beautasia Blessings everyone

What is your skin type?

When you look at skincare products, you will see on the label what skin type the product is intended for. It can range from anything – dry, sensitive, dehydrated, normal, combo, oily. Understandably, this can get quite confusing. I broke it down in its simplest form for you to understand :)

Dry/Sensitive- Dry skin types are usually sensitive because they are lacking oil. The lipid (oil) barrier on the skin in compromised. You can be born with it, or it can be a natural occurrence as we age. Dry/sensitive skin will not shine throughout the day and it turns red easily.

Normal/Combo- You can tell if you have this skin type because you usually don’t get blemishes. Except for the occasional hormonal monthly pimple which is very normal for this type. Here’s the test: after you wash your face, if you start to shine in the forehead and nose with 4-7 hours, you are combo/normal.

Oily Skin-This skin type is usually thicker and less sensitive. If you wash your face and begin to shine immediately, or within 2-3 hours all over, you are oily.

Dehydrated- This skin type is from lack of moisture or water content in the skin. This is very different from dry. You can see if you’re dehydrated when you lift your skin (on cheeks) and see fine little lines in them, that means you are dehydrated.

Beautasia note: People with oily skin often stay away from moisturizers. Many moisturizers have oils in them. It is important for these skin types to be hydrated. So look for oil-free moisturizers. If your skin feels it lacking hydration, it will over-compensate and typically overproduce more oil. I live by this motto – Dehydration leads to irritation and irritation is the root of all evil to our skin. ;)

I put this picture in this post because we should all love our skin and spontaneously touch it. JUST KIDDING! Don’t ever touch your face unless your hands are clean. Bacteria on your fingers leads to acne! :)

Hope this helps, would love to hear your thoughts.
